The sad reality of the present world is that more and more school going kids are becoming victims of drug use. While some kids turn to drugs to help in their sports many others use it more for recreational purpose without being aware of the serious repercussions at a later stage. As a result, the school authorities are forced to test students for drug and substance abuse. They believe that random testing will deter kids from using drugs and will keep them safe.
IS it right to test for drugs in schools?
There is no right or wrong answer to this question. While one section of the society believes drug testing students is an infringement of their privacy. They believe unless the school has a written policy on drug testing with the approval of the Board of Directors no student must be subject to drug testing.
They state that it is more crucial to identify the causes of drug abuse in the first place rather than checking for drug abuse. They insist it is the school’s responsibility to involve the kids in extracurricular activities which are meaningful and will keep the kids away from drugs.
Another section of parents believes this kind of testing is necessary as it will frighten the kids and dissuade them from resorting to drugs.
